Hypo-sensitivity

Children who are hypo-sensitive to sensory stimuli are under responsive to sensory stimuli.  For these children, it can be a battle to keep their attention and energy level up at a functional level and they can often appear tired, bored or tuned out.  The difference in their demeanour and functioning when they have the chance to move around actively is noticeable as the increased sensory input stimulates their nervous system. Because movement and other sensory input can help these children to stay alert, to concentrate and to maintain their postural control they will often seek it excessively making them appear fidgety, having poor concentration and sometimes hyper active.
